Technical experts to examine Passport Department software

Senior technical experts from the Idemia Company are arriving in Nepal to inspect the software system at the Department of Passport.

They are coming to Nepal after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal  'Prachanda' took initiative to address the problems facing the Department on distribution of passport. Idemia is the company managing the software at the Department. 

The Passport Department located at Tripureshwor had issued notice that it could not provide service in full scale because of the glitches in its service. To this, the Office of the Prime Minister monitored and inspected the software system, according to PM's secretariat.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister's office had sent a technical team to the Department. The team held discussion with the Department's officials and representatives from Idemia Company. The data base experts, program experts and high level officials from IT section of the related ministry had reached the Department to conduct the inspection. 

Following the inspection at the Department, the team from Prime Minister's Office held a conference call with the technical exports of the China-based Company.

The Company was directed to operate the software in full capacity as per the agreement because hundreds of Nepali were suffering due to company's technical problems.

Two senior technical experts representing the Company are arriving in Nepal from India and Malaysia on Thursday itself and is said to hold discussion with the technical team of PM Office.

Earlier, PM Dahal had directed the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Chief Secretary, Foreign Secretary and Director General at Passport Department to immediately solve the problem. Dahal directed them to end the service seekers' compulsion to stand in serpentine line to receive passport.
