Tharu people have rich culture: Minister Chaudhari

Minister for Urban Development Metmani Chaudhari has said the Tharu community has a rich culture and lingual features. Addressing a programme organized as the 91st series of Dhumrar literary discourse here Saturday, Minister Chaudhari expressed worry over the vanishing Tharu cultural costumes.

The vanishing cultural features should however be preserved, he said, adding that the Tharu community is diligent and honest. Now, this community should focus on capacity development for its political presence and visibility in state mechanisms. Minister Chaudhari also suggested the local levels that formulated plans to incorporate the marginalized groups in policy formulation and implementation.

On this occasion, writer and journalist Krishna Raj Sarbahari viewed education for Tharu people as ignored. They were mostly involved in agriculture. He also recited a literary creation in the Tharu language.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the National Tharu Artists Forum, Binay Vaidya, said the time has come to promote and protect Tharu culture.
