Today sees the 39th death anniversary of BP Koirala

The 39th death anniversary of Nepal's first people's elected Prime Minister Bishweswor Prasad Koirala is being observed today across the country by commemorating the contributions of the veteran democratic leader.

Koirala who struggled hard to bring democracy to the country had breathed his last on 7 Shrawan 2039 BS. Koirala was born on 24 Bhadra 1971 BS.

He became the first people-elected Prime Minister of Nepal following his party, Nepali Congress, won a two-thirds majority in the 2015 BS general elections.

Koirala had also made substantial contributions to the enrichment of Nepali literature. Established his eminence as a psychological realist in Nepali literature, BP has around one-and-a-half dozen literary books to his credit. His popular literary pieces are 'Teen Ghumti', 'Modiain', 'Hitler ra Yahudi, 'Sumnima', 'Narendra Dai' and 'Babu, Amar a Chhora'. His noted collection of fiction is 'Shwet Bhairabi' and 'Doshi Chasma'.

Among other literary writings of Koirala include 'Atmabritanta', 'Jail Journal' and 'Feri Sundarijal'.

Founder of the Nepali Congress, BP had also established his fame as a proponent of the principles of 'nationalism, democracy and socialism' and 'national reconciliation.

Chief Secretary of NC central office Krishna Poudel told RSS that NC, its sister organizations and BP Museum are marking the BP Memorial Day across the country by organizing several programmes.

The party has directed its leaders and cadres to follow health safety protocol considering the continued threat of coronavirus pandemic in the country.

After BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala, only Shashank Koirala, Sujata Koirala and Shekhar Koirala are active in political scenes as Manisha Koirala isn't active in political scenes.
