Two engineers have died in an accident at the 86 MW Solukhola Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project under construction in Solukhambu. Chief District Officer Ganesh Bikram Shahi informed that two persons working on the project died on the spot after a penstock pipe of the project fell during the test on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Subash Raj Regmi, 26, of Achham and Arjun Thapa, 29, of Kavre. The incident took place when water was poured into the pipe during the test and the part connected with the explosion was released.
According to Asim Rai, chairman of Thulung Dudhkoshi village, they could not be rescued in time due to bad weather. They were rushed to Okhdhunga Mission Hospital by helicopter but was pronounced dead at the hospital, he said. He also informed that one engineer injured in the incident has been brought to Kathmandu for treatment.
