Water level in Koshi and Tinau rivers at danger level

Moderate to heavy rains are occurring in different parts of the country due to the ongoing monsoon.

As a result, the water level and current in rivers and streams has increased. The current of water in Koshi and Tinau rivers has reached the danger level. Syangja, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi and Palpa districts are in danger level considering the likelihood of floods, spokesperson of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Dhruv Bahadur Khadka, said.

Early warnings have been issued to take necessary precautions due to the high risk of floods and landslides in Baglung, Kaski, Tanahun, Palpa and other districts.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has also reported that the current of the Koshi River has increased. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Saptari, Siraha and Dhanusha district.

Spokesperson Khadka shared that preparations are being made in all respects for risk management of possible monsoon-induced disaster.

Helicopters have been deployed in four locations in the country to carry out a rescue within at least half an hour time.

In case of a major disaster in the future, all kinds of composite materials are stored in warehouses near the airport. Arrangements have been made for the immediate deployment of mechanisms and materials for relief and rescue.

The Department has issued a warning for the next 24 hours and has requested all to take necessary precautions to avoid any risk or damage due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning, floods, landslide and land erosion.

There is also a possibility of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at one or two places in Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces today.
