A woman who was physically tortured while being held hostage has died, according to police. The deceased has been identified as a 27-year-old woman of Rapti Municipality-1, Piple.

According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, Purna Bahadur Ghalan, 45, of Hetauda Sub-Metropolis-9, Makwanpur and currently living in Rapti Municipality, died at the Bharatpur Hospital while undergoing treatment.

The 27-year-old woman from Rapti Municipality-1, Piple was taken hostage by Ghalan on the way to her sister-in-law’s house. The woman was kept in his house for a long time and was brought to Bharatpur Hospital for treatment after bleeding due to repeated sexual violence by Ghalan. After receiving information about the incident, Bhim Kumari Tamang, sister-in-law  of the deceased informed the police and the perpetrator is currently under police control, said Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari.
