Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala has said that the workers should have a respectful place in the 14th general convention of the party. Speaking at an interaction organized to mark the 98th birth anniversary of the founding chair of Nepal Trade Union Congress and former Prime Minister GP Koirala here Friday, she said the workers have had a significant role in the establishment of democracy in the country.
Lauding the role of the workers in every movement of the country, she said they should have a respectable position in the coming general convention. The former Deputy Prime Minister also said that the present government has not been able to address the concerns of the workers.
Also speaking at the programme organized by the NTUC, spokesperson of the party Biswa Prakash Sharma said the workers have a role in the transformation of the NC party. The party can become stronger only if the workers and the party move together ahead.
NC central members Surendra Pandey and Sita Gurung, NTUC leader Puskar Acharya also pointed out the need for better representation of the workers at the policy-making level of the party.
Senior NTUC chair Mahendra Prasad Yadav, Vice-chair Ajaya Kumar Rai, and other leaders said that the NC was inactive in establishing the issues of the workers.
