KATHMANDU: Bijay Kumar Mishra continues to lead in Nepal Bar Association election. According to the preliminary report of the ongoing vote counting, Mishra is leading in the counting of votes from polling stations in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Dhankuta, Sunsari, Morang and other cities.
It has been officially announced that Mishra received 64 votes in Kathmandu, while Shrestha received 51 votes.
In the election last Saturday, it was reported that there would be a competition for the future president between Senior Advocate Prof. Dr. Bijay Prasad Mishra from the broad democratic, progressive, professional, nationalist and inclusive legal practitioners’ group and Senior Advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha from the professional legal practitioners’ group.
In the election of the 27th Central Working Committee of the Nepal Bar Association, 75 candidates have filed their candidacies for 25 posts, for which voting began at 12 noon.
Five candidates, including two from each group and three independents, have filed their candidacies for the future president of the bar. Accordingly, Senior Advocate Mishra, Senior Advocate Shrestha, Advocate Raju Kaiti, Advocate Ujwal Ghimire and Advocate Ashish Poudel are in the race for the future chairman.
According to Chief Election Officer Senior Advocate Ramkrishna Nirala, 80 percent of the 9,957 voters have participated in the voting. According to him, out of a total of 36 polling stations in and outside Kathmandu, the Kathmandu polling station was at the Supreme Court, which has about 6,000 voters.
