Speakers at a programme here Sunday laid emphasis on increased participation of women in politics reasoning that there was meagre participation of women despite constitutional provision.
At a programme on ‘Women’s Participation in Politics’, they said women’s participation should be at least 33 per cent.
During the event, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakashman Singh said struggles should be continued no matter a position was achieved. Saying that expecting candidacy for the upcoming poll was natural, leader Singh stated that the leaders should abide by the party’s legal process to get the ticket for vying in the poll.
Likewise, NC leader Krishna Sabuj Baniya, Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Deputy Mayor Hari Prava Khadgi and other speakers called for better participation of women in politics.
In the two-day event, six working papers would be presented. In today’s session, two working papers- one each of Anar Basnet and Bishnu Basyal- were tabled. The remaining four other papers would be presented on Monday, Centre’s General Secretary Haripriya Pandey said.
