The Standing Committee meeting of the CPN Maoist Centre held on Thursday has failed to take any decision on the formation of a new government.

The dateline given by President Bidya Devi Bhandari to form a majority government following the failure of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to win a trust vote in the House of Parliament has expired at 9:00 pm.

The meeting held at the party central office in Parisdanda discussed the formation of a new government, but it could not take any decision in this regard, said party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha after the meeting.

The meeting discussed latest political situations and formation of a new government, it has been said. Party Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal informed the meeting about party’s discussions with other parties and necessary preparations to form a new government. “We are still waiting for a decision from the Madhav Kumar Nepal-Jhalanath Khanal faction of the party. So far, they have not given any decision. Whether or not we will claim a majority government will be decided upon after their decision arrives,” he said.
