Krishna Prasad Dhital of the CPN (Maoist Centre) has been elected the Speaker of Gandaki Province. He received 32 votes to get elected as the Speaker on behalf of the ruling coalition.
Dhital got support from 21 province assembly members of CPN-UML, eight of the CPN (Maoist Centre), two of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and an independent member.
Nepali Congress (NC) had fielded Saraswoti Aryal as the candidate for the same post. She received 26 votes.
A total of 58 members took part in the election process.
Dhital was elected the province assembly member from Gorkha constituency 1(1). He is the central member and Gorkha district in-charge of the CPN (MC).
In the 60-member provincial assembly, NC has the highest 27 members, UML (22), Maoist Centre (8), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (2) and independent.
