Newly elected mayor, Prahlad Kumar Chhetri, of Bardibas Municipality in Mahottari district has announced not to use government vehicle for office work. He would instead use private vehicle and the government vehicle used by the former mayor would be used to carry patients to hospital.
"The government vehicle used by former mayors will be used to carry poor people to hospital," he said. Those availing the transportation service should get recommendation from the respective ward committee as declaring themselves poor people, according to the Municipality.
Independent candidate Chhetri won the Municipality mayor in the recently held local election. Similarly, Tara Devi Mahato from Chhetri's panel bagged deputy mayor. Other candidates from his panel won chair in ward-1, 7, 13 and 14. Chhetri's panel had clean sweep in ward-1.
Another promise of mayor Chhetri is to make maternity service at Bardibas Hospital effective. Likewise, he announced to add Rs 1,000 to the transportation fare each given by the government to pregnant women for their regular checkup and delivery. The government has been providing Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 each to pregnant women of mountainous, hilly and Tarai areas respectively as transportation fare.
Similarly, newly elected mayor of Matihani Municipality Hari Prasad Mandal has pledged to purchase a fire engine and announced to provide bicycles for free to girl students of grade 11 of all government schools within the Municipality.
