In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, lawmakers demanded time from the Speaker to draw the government's attention towards various contemporary issues ranging from lightning fatalities to the social 'intolerance' towards inter-caste marriages.

Once the session convened, Dipak Giri sought time from Speaker Devraj Ghimire and apprised the House of the deaths of four from the lightning strikes in Dang and Baglung recently. He demanded the compensation of Rs one million each to the bereaved families.

It may be noted that Ram Narayan Chaudhary and Samir KC of Dang were killed by lightning two days back and two-year-old Dinesh BK and Sunita BK were hit by the thunderbolt and died a few days ago.

Raghuji Panta expressed his concern over social 'intolerance' towards an inter-case marriage in Saptari.

A youth who married a girl from the so-called upper caste is subjected to unnecessary trouble by producing a fake birth registration of the girl to prove that she is a minor and does not reach the legal age of marriage, according to the lawmaker. He was accused of negligence on the part of police, administration, and court in regard to the case, drawing the attention of the bodies concerned towards the matter.

Leader Panta called for political parties to focus on increasing awareness programs to promote social tolerance towards inter-caste marriages.

Purna Bahadur Gharti asked the government to do the needful to prompt rescue efforts and relief distribution and save villages and infrastructures from flooding and landslides.

The budget, policies, and programs for the next fiscal year, 2023/24 introducing the provision to scrap the district election office would not strengthen democracy, argued Santosh Pariyar.

Dhan Bahadur Budha drew the attention of the government to investigate the robbery of ancient ornaments worth millions of rupees at a monastery in the Shey-Phoksundo area.

Similarly, Abdul Khan called for making the citizenship-acquiring process hassle-free and easier. Rama Koirala stressed the need for the government to focus on repairing the leaking parliament building.
