Karnali Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has received the vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly on Wednesday.
Shahi of the Nepali Congress was appointed the chief minister on November 2, following a gentleman’s agreement with the CPN-Maoist Centre. The Maoist Centre’s Mahendra Bahadur Shahi had resigned from the position a day ago.
As the constitution requires a chief minister appointed by soliciting support from two or more parties to obtain the vote within 30 days, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi had sought the vote of confidence in the assembly meeting today.
During the vote held this afternoon, Shahi received 22 votes of the 35-member assembly. The main opposition CPN-UML was not present in the meeting; hence, no one cast votes against him nor was anyone neutral.
