Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Devraj Ghimire, has pledged to enhance the effectiveness of his role in the Lower House in coming days.
In his best wishes at a programme organised by an organization, Parliamentary Study and Development, on the eve of the 65th Parliamentary Day here Friday, the Speaker insisted that the entire lawmakers should be dedicated to the assigned roles and responsibilities and be proactive to carry out tasks efficiently.
As he said, he would do his role effectively as a 'referee' in the parliament. "But the role of referee is not sufficient to make the entire match worth-watching until players perform well."
On the occasion, civil society leaders questioned the presence of lawmakers in the parliament. The presence of lawmakers in the House is not effective and fully meaningful.
They were for a timely amendment of the Constitution.
Dr Sundarmani Dixit, Dr Birendra Mishra, Pro Dr Rambabu Dhakal, Dr Bishnu Raj Upreti and Dr Indra Adhikari put forth their views as the civil society leaders at the programme.
