KATHMANDU: The meeting of Nepali Congress (NC)’s office-bearers, former office-bearers and parliamentary party’s executive committee here on Saturday has decided to present a unified voice in the upcoming session of parliament.

In the meeting convened at the parliamentary party’s office at Singha Durbar, party President Sher Bahadur Deuba instructed all party office-bearers and ministers to portray a unified front of the party in and outside of the parliament, said parliamentary party’s chief whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire.

During the meeting, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak mentioned that the incumbent government considered an amendment through ordinance to revitalize the national economy.

If any revision is to be considered in the ordinances, amendment could be done while ordinances will be tabled in the parliament as the replacement bill.

While he presented an overview of the incumbent government’s performances and priorities, the office-bearers did not comment on the performance of the ministers representing the NC in the current coalition government, informed chief whip Ghimire.

Chief whip Ghimire himself had briefed the participants of the meeting about preparation for the upcoming session of parliament, number of bills and their situation and bills that could be endorsed by the next session of the parliament.

According to him, the office-bearers had similar understanding and common opinion among the office-bears on the ordinances that were introduced to create an enabling environment to attract more investment to the country.

“Although the bills could be presented in the parliament for that but it would take longer. Hence, the incumbent government introduced some ordinances to create investment-friendly environment,” he explained.

Spokesperson of the NC Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat updated the attendees of the meeting about ordinances and works and priorities of the government. He shared, “The office-bearers were informed about under-consideration bill that would be actively endorsed by the upcoming parliamentary session and relevant committees will finish its business on those bills on time.

The meeting aimed to collect suggestions, advices and recommendations from the office-bearers to the ministers who represent the party in the incumbent government, Spokesperson Mahat said.

“There could be a separate mechanism within the party to commence serious home work on the constitution amendment and to identify key issues to be considered during amendment,” Mahat quoted Minister Lekhak as saying.

The ministers also shed light on ongoing initiatives they were undertaking to the best of their knowledge and capacity, said Mahat, adding that the office-bearers had called for party’s stronger presence in the government.

He remarked, “Overall, the ministers are doing good job. There’s much to be delivered to meet party’s need.”

In the meeting leaders such as Bijay Kumar Gachchadar, Bimalendra Nidhi, Spokesperson Dr Mahat, Maha Laxmi Upadhyay, Umakanta Chaudhary and the Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel and Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari among others voiced their views on contemporary issues and about their respective responsibilities.
