The top leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) have agreed on a schedule, active membership, and election guidelines in regard to the upcoming 14th national convention.
According to NC leader Prakashman Singh, President Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel made an understanding on Saturday to make public the name list of the party’s active members by resolving intraparty disputes, address the concerns of district presidents and create favourable environment for the national convention.
After holding talks with President Deuba, senior leader Poudel conducted a meeting with leaders and district presidents close to him at leader Singh’s residence, Chaksibari.
Singh said that Deuba and Poudel agreed to organise the party’s ward-level convention on the same day in all 6,743 wards across the country.
Some district presidents of the NC have been staging a sit-in at the party central office, seeking an amendment to the election guidelines, and release the name list of the party’s active members. NC leader Jagdishwor Narsingh KC said that the leaders were likely to end their sit-in from Sunday.
The party has already released the name of active members of 48 districts and preparations are on to release name lists from other districts within one to two days.
As per the schedule, the ward-level convention of the NC is scheduled to be organised on September 3.
Likewise, the convention at the local level is fixed for September 12, and province assembly constituency-level convention on September 17, and the House of Representatives constituency-level convention of the NC is slated for September 21.
Similarly, the district convention of the party is scheduled on September 26, the province convention on October 27-29, and the national convention on November 25-29.
