Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal among other top-notch leaders belonging to Dahal-Nepal faction have taken to the streets to make the general strike a success.
Various leaders of the faction are leading the protest rally today. Dahal led the protest rally that started from Satdobato passed Jawalakhel before converging into a sit-in at Pulchowk for some time, Dahal’s personal secretary Bishnu Sapkota told NepalNews. He informed that police, however, have arrested Standing Committee member Astalaxmi Shakya who was leading the protest in Kalanki this morning.
Meanwhile, Madhav Kumar Nepal has been leading the protest in Koteshwor while Narayan Kaji Shrestha at Ratna Park.
The disgruntled faction has called the general strike against the appointments in the constitutional bodies and the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) today.
The faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal has called “Nepal Bandh” today to protest the government’s unconstitutional move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR), and the appointments of the office-bearers in the Constitutional Bodies.
The general strike has been called on Thursday, the day before the mass meeting being organised by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led faction.
The disgruntled NCP faction and the main opposition Nepali Congress have been separately staging demonstrations since President Bidya Bhandari dissolved the HoR on the recommendation of the Council of Minister on December 20.
