KATHMANDU: The controversy surrounding Kulman Ghising’s dismissal as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) took center stage in parliament today.
Opposition parties, including the Maoist Center, strongly protested the decision during the House of Representatives session.
As the session began, Maoist MP Shakti Basnet addressed the parliament, condemning Kulman’s dismissal as unjust. In response, opposition members, including Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, stood up and protested.
The protests stemmed from the government’s decision on Monday to remove Kulman from his position and appoint Hitendradev Shakya as his replacement. This move has sparked widespread opposition, with political party-affiliated organizations taking to the streets and even burning effigies of Energy Minister Deepak Khadka.
Ahead of the House of Representatives meeting, opposition parties held a discussion and decided to formally oppose Kulman’s dismissal in parliament.
