KATHMANDU: A key meeting is scheduled today (Monday) between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Singha Durbar.
The meeting, set for 4 p.m., will bring together the three top leaders from the ruling parties and the main opposition. Prime Minister Oli, who also leads the CPN-UML, will be joined by Deuba and Prachanda for important discussions.
Agni Kharel, Prime Minister Oli’s advisor on human rights and transitional justice, confirmed the meeting. “It has been decided that only the top three leaders will participate in the discussion at 4 p.m.,” Kharel said.
A major topic of discussion will be the long-delayed appointment of office bearers to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappearances.
A recommendation committee to oversee these appointments has yet to be formed, causing further delays in the transitional justice process.
The previous recommendation committee, led by former Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra, withdrew after failing to reach a unanimous decision on potential office bearers.
