KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli is set to address Parliament on Monday regarding the reasons for Kulman Ghising’s removal from his role as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
UML Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula confirmed that this arrangement was made during a meeting between Speaker Devraj Ghimire and the chief whips of major political parties on Sunday morning.
Bartaula also shared that Prime Minister Oli and opposition leaders had a phone conversation today to discuss the matter.
Additionally, the Prime Minister has called an all-party meeting for today. During the meeting, the ruling party urged the opposition to end their obstruction in the House. However, the opposition maintained that they would not allow the House to function until the Prime Minister provides an explanation for Kulman’s removal.
Meanwhile, Speaker Ghimire, in his meeting with the chief whips, urged the parties to create a positive environment for discussion and debate in Parliament, emphasizing that the violence in Tinkune was an attack on democracy.
The opposition has strongly criticized the government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising and replace him with Hitendradev Shakya as Managing Director of NEA. They are demanding that Prime Minister Oli address the issue in Parliament, arguing that Kulman, who had only four months left in his term, was unfairly dismissed despite his effective performance.
