KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to address the House of Representatives today (March 31) in an effort to resolve the parliamentary deadlock caused by the government’s decision to remove Kulman Ghising as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.
During a meeting on Friday with Speaker Devraj Ghimire, opposition leaders, and ruling party chief whips, an agreement was reached for the Prime Minister to clarify the reasons behind Ghising’s dismissal.
The Cabinet’s decision last Monday to remove Ghising from his post at the state-run power utility sparked strong opposition, leading to disruptions in parliamentary proceedings.
Opposition parties have vowed to continue obstructing the session until they receive a satisfactory explanation from the Prime Minister.
While the government initially proposed that the relevant minister or Deputy Prime Minister respond on its behalf, opposition leaders rejected the idea, insisting on a direct statement from PM Oli.
