BIRATNAGAR: The central convention of Press Chautari Nepal has begun in Biratnagar from today. The convention, which began with the main slogan Communication for Prosperity is the Basis of Press Chautari’, will last for three days.

Although Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli was scheduled to inaugurate the central convention at 11:00 am on Sunday, he has been delayed at the last minute. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has reached Biratnagar in his place.

The organization’s office bearers and most of the central members and representatives are in Biratnagar for the general convention that begins today. General Secretary Hiraman Lama informed that nearly 900 representatives will participate in the general convention.

Accommodation arrangements have been made for guests, central office bearers and members from yesterday and for representatives for today and tomorrow. General Secretary Lama informed that the convention will discuss the problems and upcoming plans of the journalism sector and the selection of future leadership at this general convention.

Two candidates have already announced their candidacies for the future chairman of Chautari. Accordingly, Vice President Ganesh Pandey and Rajesh Rai have announced their competition for the future leadership. So far, it seems that the main competition will be between Pandey and Rai.

While informal announcements of candidacies are being made for other positions, the leadership is making efforts to select a unanimous leadership. Organization Chairman Ganesh Basnet has already stated that those who seek a position in the general convention but do not contribute to the work of the party and the organization will not be made leaders.
