Chairperson of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Dharmendra Jha, has underscored that the positive role of the media was expected to ensure free and fair elections.
Chairperson Jha said it during a media orientation the RSS conducted in collaboration with the Election Commission in the wake of elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly. Chairperson Jha made a presentation on the role of media and journalists in elections, where he stressed that journalists must not ignore code of conduct.
Professional integrity is imperative, he said, urging the media for self-regulation and public accountability.
In the orientation which saw the participation of 40 journalists, Joint Secretary at Election Commission, Shaligram Sharma Poudel, made a presentation on the role of journalists, and government employees on election, EC's expectation, free, fair and credible election, and importance of authentic information. He said spread of false information- dis/misinformation- foil the atmosphere for fair election, so media can play vital role to counter fake news
