Leaders of the ruling coalition have suggested that an acting Chief justice should be appointed while Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra is on leave. A meeting of the coalition held at the Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence in Baluwatar on Thursday morning suggested appointing an acting chief justice as the court has been obstructed for a long time and the chief justice has fallen ill.

After the meeting, Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said, "The coalition has decided to immediately appoint an acting Chief Justice and move ahead with the proceedings of the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice is ill."

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), Chairman of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of the People's Socialist Party Upendra Yadav and Durga Poudel of the Rastriya Janamorcha.
