DANG: General Secretary of CPN (UML) Shankar Pokhrel has called for social and cultural transformation for the country’s development.
Speaking at an interaction programme on rights for Dalit community here Sunday, Pokhrel stated that social awakening was needed for economic and social transformation in the community.
Pokhrel also called for dismantling the discriminatory social hierarchies created by our social and cultural practices since long past.
We need a social movement to end such discriminations, as such issues won’t be resolved just by writing in the constitution, the UML General Secretary argued.
He also asked all to contribute to ending the practice of untouchability.
Similarly, Pokhrel said that the family occupation of the Dalit community should be modernized with the application of modern technology.
Politicians Shankar Nepali, Nandalal Bishwakarma, Bhagawat Bishwakarma, Krishna Bahadur Nepali and others spoke about the need to end the social ills, including untouchability, in the society.
