State Affairs Committee condemns Tinkune violence, issues directives

KATHMANDU: The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee’s meeting held today (April 4) has issued a series of important directives in response to the violent incident that occurred in Tinkune, Kathmandu on March 28.

The committee strongly condemned the violence carried out by royalist groups under the guise of a protest, expressing regret over the incident. The committee instructed the Nepal Government, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Home Affairs to conduct a comprehensive investigation and initiate legal action against the individuals responsible for the violence.

Furthermore, the committee directed the government to prevent any future protests, sit-ins, or gatherings in Tinkune and its surrounding areas. The committee emphasized that such activities should not be allowed to take place in these locations to maintain public order.

In addition to condemning the incident, the committee called for a thorough investigation into the facts surrounding the March 28 violence and ordered legal action against those directly or indirectly involved in the incident. It stressed that the authorities should ensure accountability and justice for the victims.

The committee also expressed its determination to prevent future violent events of this nature, urging the government to take decisive steps to safeguard the Constitution, the rule of law, and the federal democratic republican system of Nepal. It called on the Nepal Government, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Home Affairs to act with seriousness and urgency in addressing these issues.

The committee also directed the government to ensure that the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are adequately equipped with resources and budget to effectively handle law and order situations. The committee requested that the Nepal Government, the Office of the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Home Affairs take the necessary steps to ensure proper budgetary management for these agencies.
