KATHMANDU: The Free Students Union (FSU) election is being held today at the central campus of Tribhuvan University (TU) in Kirtipur.
According to FSU Election Officer Professor Dr. Krishna Prasad Neupane, voting commenced at 8 am and will continue until 4 pm.
The election, originally scheduled for March 18, was postponed due to disputes among student organizations. A subsequent rescheduled election on March 21 was also delayed due to a short-term interim order from the Supreme Court.
Seventeen candidates are competing for the position of president, including prominent contenders such as Siddhant Bhatta from ANNFSU, Deepak Raj Joshi from Nepal Students’ Union, Prabin Dahal from ANNFSU (Revolutionary), and Dinesh Karki from the Independent Students’ Group.
Other candidates include Bilam Suwal from Nepal Revolutionary Students’ Union, Akkal Ranabhat from Nepali Students’ Forum, Narendra Singh Mahara from Naya Shakti Students’ Union, and Ujjal Bahadur Khadka from Independent Students. Additionally, Padma Bhusal, Sanam Wali, and Diprasan KC are running under the Independent Students’ Union.
A total of 6,146 registered voters at the central campus will decide the future leadership of the student body.
