KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that the Department of Postal Service would be made technology friendly.
He said this while inaugurating a programme organized by the Department at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology today to announce the launching of ‘One Local Level One Post Office’ campaign. On the occasion, he stressed the need to change the postal policy.
He opined that development has been overshadowed due to lack of change in policy and procedures in tune with the transformation of the country.
Minister Gurung said that all the old policies and acts would be amended within this year, adding the postal service is very old and important service and it is necessary to modernize it making it technology-friendly.
“Now the policy of the Department of Postal Service will be changed,” Minister Gurung said, adding that the ministry has always been sensitive to making the post office technology-friendly.
The programme was attended by the employees of the post office of the local levels. Minister Gurung also urged the employees to make the post office public service-oriented.
“The effectiveness of the postal service should start from the General Post Office at the centre and the postal employees of other local levels should also make the service effective in their respective areas,” he said.
On the occasion, Director General of the Department of Postal Service, Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, briefed the Minister about the status of the General Post Office and the challenges and action plan for the improvement of the post offices at the local levels.
