IT to forward economic development: Minister Gurung

KATHMANDU:  Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said Nepal would unlock the potential of information technology (IT) to spur economic development.

Addressing the 8th Nepal Chamber Expo, 2025 organized by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce at Bhrikutimandap today, Minister Gurung informed that the ministry was devoted to creating infrastructures and policy frameworks to bolster IT sector. The economy which was facing slowdown in the beginning has witnessed reform after the current government’s intervention, he claimed.

“We’re devoted to both in policy and infrastructure fronts,” Minister Gurung reminded, sharing that the infrastructures like IT parks would be expanded within this fiscal year.

According to him, the traders and industrialists were happy with the ordinances the government brought recently. It would create positive impact on national economy, he added.

The Minister also informed that the draft of artificial intelligence (AI) policy was being discussed at ministry. The government has a long term goal of ensuring 5 percent contribution from IT sector to the national economy by promoting digital Nepal campaign.

The ministry has paid heed to generate employments through IT development, he added.
