KATHMANDU: Two earthquakes struck Nepal’s western Jajarkot district on Friday night, shaking the region within minutes of each other, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.
Lok Bijay Adhikari, a senior geologist at the center, confirmed that a 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit Jajarkot at 8:07 p.m., followed by a second, stronger quake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale at 8:10 p.m.
Both quakes had their epicenter in Jajarkot, a mountainous district still recovering from a deadly 6.4 magnitude earthquake in last year. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Authorities said further details were being collected.
