KOLKATA : The University Grants Commission has recently published a list of 21 fake universities and has asked students and parents to be more careful while taking admission in any institution of higher education. Several institutions on this list claim to offer degrees in specific subjects but are not registered with the University Grants Commission. Such institutions often lure students to take admission in degree courses in various streams, but due to lack of registration, students face problems in the future in the job market. As per the UGC rules, academic and infrastructure standards are not followed in these institutions. Such fake universities are not under any control, and as a result, in many cases, students waste their time and money in these institutions without their knowledge. The UGC has therefore advised students to check all the information on the website of the institution before taking admission and to check whether the institution is approved before taking admission. The UGC has also noted that only those universities registered under the UGC Act 1956 have the right to award degrees in India.
Earlier, in May 2024, the UGC had published a list of such fake universities, this time there was no change in that list. This list has surfaced again on social media. Which institutions are on this list?
