KOLKATA: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had promised financial assistance to Bengal farmers. She kept that promise. The Chief Minister decided to provide financial assistance to 9 lakh farmers under the ‘Bangla Crop Insurance’ scheme. Nabanna started working like that. The Chief Minister herself published this message of financial assistance to farmers on the Chief Minister’s X handle today. This time, financial assistance of Rs 350 crore was announced.

Last year, the state was hit by adverse weather conditions several times. Vast areas of Howrah, Hooghly, East Burdwan, West Medinipur, Bankura in South Bengal were flooded. Bigha after bigha of cultivated land was submerged in flood water for a long time. Paddy and other seasonal crops were destroyed in the field. Farmers suffered a lot in this flood before the Puja. Farmers in Bengal faced huge financial losses. Farmers in North Bengal districts also faced the same problem. The Chief Minister herself stood by the farmers and announced financial assistance.

The Chief Minister tweeted about this at the beginning of the year. On this day, Mamata Banerjee wrote, “I am very happy to inform you that under the ‘Bangla Crop Insurance’ scheme, we have started providing financial assistance of Rs 350 crore directly to 9 lakh farmers of Bengal through their bank accounts. This assistance is being provided to all the farmers whose crops were damaged due to adverse weather conditions in the current Kharif season. Farmers do not have to pay any money for crop insurance. Because, the state government pays the entire premium for all crops including potatoes and sugarcane. The Chief Minister also wrote, “It is our pride that since its launch in 2019, our government has provided a total of Rs 3,562 crore assistance to 1.12 crore affected farmers under the ‘Bangla Crop Insurance’ scheme alone.
