Hooghly:- A terrible incident happened when he was just one and a half years old. While visiting a relative’s house, he suddenly fell from a height and injured his head. He bled from his nose, mouth, and ears. He was taken to various doctors, but in the end, the boy could no longer “talk” with his mouth. He had lost the ability to speak like he always did. He wanted to become an established police officer in his life. But that dream remained “unattainable”. With an indomitable desire to serve and a love for his work, Chandranath is standing on the road and controlling traffic on his own responsibility.

The busiest place in Gurap is Beltola intersection. Apart from several long-distance buses, trekkers and auto-totos pass through this intersection. Chandranath regularly stands at that busiest intersection in the morning and afternoon and controls traffic with a whistle in his mouth. Chandranath Ghosh is a resident of Rohiya village in Gurbari Dui panchayat in Hooghly district. He had to quit after studying in a school for the disabled till the eighth grade.

Their family somehow managed with the earnings of his father, Bishwanath Ghosh, who used to act in a Jatra Dal. And their assets were two bighas of land. But they never backed down for their son’s treatment. Even after taking him to Chennai and Bangalore, Chandranath’s parents could not talk to him. After getting married in due course, he is currently responsible for taking care of his two children, wife and parents. One of his sons also has special needs. Chandranath’s father is also ill.

Chandranath has been managing traffic in the Beltola intersection area of Gurap for the past two years, keeping hundreds of obstacles at bay. No matter the rain or shine, the locals have never seen him back down from his duties. He cycles about two kilometers from home to the Beltola area of Gurap police station every day. There he handles traffic morning and evening. He has dark glasses, a traffic police uniform, and a whistle on his face. And everyone from local businessmen to ordinary people are happy with his work. Chandranath is very popular with everyone in the area.
