While many may not believe Nepal is a golfing destination, there are seven, amazing golf courses in Nepal. 

As history points out, Golf came to Nepal a century ago

Before it used to be a sport for limited Nepali elite families but it did not take too long for it to turn into a professional sport for many. 

And now Nepal also organizes a series of championships on its golf courses every year.

With the Golf courses designed by world class designers, it is no less than any other international courses. 

So which are the top 5 Golf courses in Nepal?

Gokarna Forest Golf Course:  


Gokarna Forest Golf Course built back in 1999 is said to be not only the finest in Nepal but one of the finest golf courses in South Asia. 

As per their official page, “Gokarna Forest Golf Course is stunningly set within 470 acres of the centuries old Gokarna Forest Reserve, 4,550 ft above sea level. It covers 6,755 yard par 72 course.”

The only international standard of 18 holes course in Nepal has one of the most spectacular views with the snow capped mountains of the Langtang range. And while one is golfing they may see monkeys or deers running which will make your experience even more memorable!

Royal Nepal Golf Club:


Royal Nepal Golf Club is the first and oldest golf course in Nepal.

As per their official facebook page, “RNGC was first called the Gauchar Golf Course located in Gaucharan started by General Krian Shumsher in 1917 after coming back from Scotland.”

This club was famous with the former Royal family and also foreign dignities. 

Placed right near to the Tribhuvan International Airport, the gold course has nine holes and has held many tournaments over the years. 

The challenging golf course also provides scenic views of Ganesh Hilmal and Langtang Himal.

Himalayan Golf Course:

Himalayan Golf Course built within 6,900 yards with par-73 track is in Pokhara, 200 km west of Kathmandu.

One of the most exhilarating courses in Nepal is located by the melting snow waters of Bijaypur river.

It is a nine holes course and it’s 5th holes is considered one of the 80 most unique holes in the world by leading golf architects.

The even greens present a not only visual satisfaction but also a rewarding golfing experience.

Nirvana Country Club: 


Built back in 2001, Nirvana Country club located in Dharan is a forty-five minutes drive from Biratnagar airport. 

It is in Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort built with 9 holes in par 70 and 5990 yard!

Ang Tshiring Sherpa Memorial Golf Tournament, a golf tournament held in memory of late Ang Tshiring Sherpa, Managing Director of Yeti Group of Companies and a tourism entrepreneur, is scheduled to be held on March 6 and 7. The two-day event will be held at Gokarna Forest Resort, Nepal’s only golf course with 18 holes. Considering the global pandemic, the event has been divided into two days to accommodate a larger number of golf enthusiasts. The tournament will be played in a stableford format with ¾ handicap over 18 holes.
