Mira Rai, Nepal’s biggest name in the world of Ultra Marathon today finds herself at the forefront of bringing through the next generation of Ultra-athletes. The Mira Rai initiative, so far, has trained 19 women ultra-running athletes within its facilities informs Mira Rai.

Currently training 6 athletes in a 9 month long closed training session, Rai has her sights set on opening her own training center training both male and female Ultra marathon aspirants.

The effects of Covid saw Rai denied from participating in any competition last year, however she expects to participate in as many competitions as she can this year all around the world starting from Italy.

Having taken part as a combatant in the Maoist War, she then moved on to athletics after the end of the civil war. After her foray into athletics she took off and never looked back winning gold at the 2015 Mont Blanc Ultra Marathon in France, the Sky Running Asian Championships in Hong Kong and the Ben Nevis Ultra Marathon in the UK along with many more competitions all around the world. She was also named Adventurer of the Year by National Geographic in the year 2017.

Rai competes at the 2014 Manaslu Trail Race, which passes through Nepal's Himalayan landscapes.

She is also set to be the brand ambassador and participant in the race on the 14th of April at Rara Lake from Mugu to Jumla.

Ultra Marathons are a step above(quite literally) from the normal marathon hence the moniker of Ultra, having to run the marathon in the mountains, ultra marathon athletes are at peak physical conditions having to traverse the uphill and downhills of the terrain during the marathon.

As she ages, Mira Rai jokingly states her parents pressure for her to get married, undecided on this front one thing that she’s sure about is that she wants to continue running as long as possible for the development of the sport in Nepal and amongst the Nepal Youth.
