The 'Late Babuchiri Sherpa Memorial Open Sports Climbing' competition will be held next Monday. Mountain Sports Association President Nwang Nima Sherpa
President Sherpa informed about the program organized jointly by Mountain Sports Association and Everest Climbers Association.
The Mountain Sports Association is formed in New York with the aim of promoting adventure mountain sports on an international level.
Maya Sherpa, president of Everest Climbers Association, said in the program that late Babu Chiri Sherpa was a world record holder climber and his contribution should be remembered.
The Nepal National Mountaineering Guide Association will provide technical assistance (route setting, judging, safety, and belay service) to this competition. The competition will be held separately for men and women. Cash prizes of 50,000, 30,000 and 15,000 respectively will be given to the first, second and third place winners in the competition.
Late Babuchiri Sherpa climbed Mt. Everest 10 times. In which he climbed four times from China.
He spent more than 21 hours on the summit of Mount Everest without the aid of artificial oxygen. Which still stands as a world record. He and he managed to set another world record by climbing Mount Everest from the south side in 16 hours and 56 minutes. He died on April 29, 2001 while attempting to climb Mount Everest for the 11th time.
