On the occasion of Haritalika Teej, Himalayan Chess Academy is going to organize the ‘Teej Special Tourney 2024’ chess competition on Friday, including female players.
The one-day rapid chess competition will be conducted at the chess hall of Himalayan Chess Academy at Upkar Colony, Thapathali. According to the founder of the academy, Monalisha Khambu, 30 players will compete in the tournament.The winner of Nepal’s first national chess tournament, she is also the Deputy Secretary General of the Nepal Chess Federation and a member of the Women’s Commission of the World Chess Federation.
“On the occasion of women’s festival Teej, the competition is organized so that women can enjoy playing chess and give more energy to women empowerment by supporting each other,” says Khambu, the founder of the academy, “According to the Swiss system, only women players will be allowed to participate in the five-stage competition.
Women will handle technical aspects including arbiter.In ‘Teej Special Tournament 2024’, every player will get 10 minutes and 10 seconds of each move in every match. It is said that the first, second and third place winners will be given attractive prizes along with medals.
This is the third occasion that the Himalayan Chess Academy is going to organize the tournament. He had previously successfully organized the SEE Cup and the Himalayan 100 (for Guinness World Records on the occasion of FIDE’s 100th anniversary).The academy has been managing the training and competition as well. The academy, which has been providing regular training to 73 players/students in various courses two days a week, is also conducting online chess training.
