Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat first against Sri Lanka in their T20 World Cup cricket match Tuesday at the Gabba.

Both teams have slim chances of progressing to the semifinals as the top two teams in Group 1 but they still have something to play for — the top four teams automatically qualify for the next T20 World Cup in 2024.

Sri Lanka made one change to the side which lost its last game to New Zealand in Sydney, bringing in fast bowler Pramod Madushan for Chamika Karunaratne. Afghanistan, which has had its last two matches washed out, brought in Gulbadin Naib as a replacement for the injured Hazratullah Zazai.

England was scheduled to play New Zealand in the second match later Tuesday, also at the Gabba.

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Pramod Madushan, Lahiru Kumara, Kasun Rajitha.

Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Usman Ghani, Ibrahim Zadran, Gulbadin Naib, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fareed Ahmad Malik, Fazalhaq Farooqi.
