Preparations for the operation of commercial flights have started with the completion of construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has been making necessary preparations for regular commercial flight operations for Buddha Jayanti, said Bikram Raj Gautam, co-coordinator of the airport operation preparation task force.
According to the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations, the security of the terminal area will be provided by the Nepal Police and the security of the compound area will be provided by the Nepal Army, said Gautam. The authority has said that it has started discussions with the security, customs, labor and employment department, civil aviation and other agencies to make the security situation in the airport more effective.
The calibration flight of Gautam Buddha Airport has completed. Only Tribhuvan International Airport has been operating international flights in Nepal. NEA believes that air traffic in Kathmandu will be reduced after the airport starts its operation.
