Due to heavy snowfall and inclement weather in Taplejung, flights at Suketar Airport have been suspended since a week. The flights have been continuously disrupted due to snow and thick fog at the airport.
Earlier this past week, Friday and Monday's flights were also blocked due to snowfall. A flight was canceled today as well due to unfavorable weather, said Lokendra Limbu, Taplejung station in-charge of Nepal Airlines Corporation. According to Limbu, the flight was disrupted last Friday and Monday due to heavy snowfall at the airport.
Fourteen passengers who had taken tickets for Kathmandu have been stopped after the flight was disrupted today. According to station in-charge Limbu, 12 passengers from Kathmandu to Taplejung were also stopped there. According to Nepal Airlines Corporation, flights at Suketar Airport have been repeatedly disrupted due to snow and unfavorable weather conditions.
The corporation has been operating flights at Suketter Airport every Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the year. People's lives in the district have also been affected due to the cold weather. Earlier, the flight was disrupted even when it snowed for the first time.
The minimum temperature in Taplejung this morning was 5.4 degrees Celsius, according to the Water and Meteorological Field Office.
