Lumbini promoted in Myanmar

The Embassy of Nepal in Yangon organized an "Interaction Programme on Buddhist Pilgrimage to Lumbini and Beyond".

Welcoming the participants, Ambassador of Nepal to Myanmar Harishchandra Ghimire highlighted Nepal-Myanmar relations based on traditions, religions, culture and linguistic linkages, and emphasized on establishing direct air links from Yangon and Mandalay to Gautam Buddha International Airport, according to a press statement by the Nepal Embassy in Yangon.

Stating that situation is getting normal after mass vaccination against Covid-19, he provided reasons for Nepal to be an attractive destination for Myanmar people including the role played by the then UN Secretary General U Thant for the development of Lumbini, good numbers of Nepali Origin Myanmar people residing in different parts of Myanmar.

Ambassador Ghimire said that Nepal is a perfect blend of nature, culture and adventure in the world and young generation of Myanmar like tourist destinations Lumbini and beyond it.

Ambassador Ghimire said that Nepal Embassy is ready to cooperate and coordinate for business delegation and their business contract on direct air connectivity, tourism and trade promotion, the statement further read.

Likewise, Ambassador Ghimire shared a presentation on Lumbini and surrounding Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Explaining about the possible tour packages to Lumbini and beyond involving trekking, mountaineering, jungle safari and many more, he urged the travel and tour companies to explore the business opportunities in this sector partnering with Nepali counterparts.

Sagar Ghimire, President of All Myanmar Gorkha Hindu Religious Association, Nanda Ram Neupane, Patron of Myanmar Nepal Friendship Association and All Myanmar Gorkha Hindu Religious Association, Devendra Naulakha, President of Non-Resident Nepali Association, Myanmar, Mange Ram Agarwal, President of Myanmar-Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, U Maung Maung Myint, Chairman of Bodhgaya Committee, Cho Mar Nwe, Head of Sales Department of Myanmar Airways International, representatives from travels and tours companies and different media groups expressed their views on the importance of direct air connectivity to Bhairahawa from Yangon and Mandalay during the programme.
