New Year’s Eve around the world is one of the biggest party nights. And Pokhara was no exception to this marvelous night. Despite having a Nepali New Year, the vibe and the build up surrounding the New Years 2022 is truly sensational, even more so in Pokhara as its freak street and clubs all geared up for a night of partying and merriment. The street festivals here that go on for 3 days from the 30th of December to the 1st of January is one that attracts tourists from nearby cities and countries for the atmosphere it creates that never ceases to amaze and boy did it amaze me. Walking on the streets here felt as if I were amidst the dance floor of a club on a Friday night or Thamel on New Year’s Eve!

Pokhara, as must be clearly evident by now, is a city that prides itself and frankly depends on tourism for its survival. It goes without saying, the adverse effects that COVID had especially on the Tourism industry hit Pokhara very hard. For a city struggling to make ends meet during these times the influx of people on New Years filled hotels and clubs to the brim, similar to pre-COVID times.

Having asked around, Nepalese and International party-goers alike had a wonderful time during the festival fervor of Pokhara. From cultural shows consisting of dances and music to food and parties, as GenZ’ puts it these days, last night was simply “Lit”! For a guy who has never been to Pokhara during the New Year’s before, this experience is one I’d never forget and would recommend to anyone who ever thinks of visiting Pokhara.
