Students draw Himalayas on the banks of Nile River

The Embassy of Nepal in Cairo, Egypt organized an art competition entitled 'Climate Change and the Himalayas' to commemorate the World Environment Day. The event was held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt on Saturday.

Scores of students from various countries and studying at Pakistan International School, the Irish International School, Maadi British International School, Cairo American College and Nasser Private School participated in the art competition, the Embassy of Nepal, Cairo said.

At the programme, the Principal of Pakistan International School, Saiyed Tosef Hussain Bukhari thanked the Nepali Embassy for organizing the art contest and expressed the view that participation of students in such extra-curricular activities helped bring out the hidden talents among the pupils.

Stating the competition provided an opportunity to the students, he said they could give a message to the world through art the steps humanity needed to take to protect the Earth for adverse impact of climate change.

Jamal Khan, a participant, described the Himalayas of Nepal as not only that of Nepal but 'the best natural heritage' of the whole world, stressing on the need of protecting such heritage linked with the life of the coming generation from the climate change impacts.

Rana Khalid, a parent of a student who took part in the competition, said the Himalayas of Nepal were the best in the world in terms of mountaineering tourism. He expressed his belief that Nepal would become the main tourism destination for the Egyptian youths in future as they were attracted to adventure tourism.

Nepali Ambassador to the Republic of Egypt Sushil Kumar Lamsal thanked the schools participating in the art competition. He also handed over the prize, certificate and token of love with an imprint of the Nepal Himalaya to the students standing out first, second and third position in the competition. The ambassador presented a certificate and token of love with an imprint of the Nepal Himalaya to all the contestants.

Yunjia Zhang of Pakistan International School secured the first prize in the competition.
