KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has earned a profit of over Rs 9.11 billion in the first three months of the current fiscal year.
NEA’s total income, including interest and other sources, amounted to Rs 41.80 billion from the Nepali month of Shrawan to mid-Asoj. Meanwhile, its expenses totaled Rs 32.69 billion.
During this period, NEA spent Rs 32.69 billion on operations and maintenance. Of this, electricity sales from various distribution centers amounted to Rs 26.77billion out of a total of Rs 28.95 billion.
NEA purchased a total of 4.10 billion units of electricity, including 875.2 million units from its own and subsidiary companies, and 3.22 billion units from other private generating companies.
A total of Rs 21.91 billion was paid for these purchases, as informed by NEA’s Executive Director Kulman Ghising.
There has been no electricity import from India since Shrawan to mid-Asoj.
While NEA had expected to make exports, floods in the second week of Asoj hindered these plans, but no imports occurred during that period.
However, during this time, NEA successfully exported 1.4 billion 6.1 million units of electricity to India, earning Rs 10.88 billion in revenue.
An amount of Rs 16.93 billion, including Rs 9.12 billion from the Government of Nepal and foreign aid, has been spent on various projects and electrification initiatives.
Of this, NEA itself spent Rs 10.88 billion, with Rs 3.81 billion allocated for various expenses.
Notably, Rs 6.5 billion of this amount was used for foreign payments.
