Three more cases of cholera have been confirmed in the Kathmandu Valley.
According to the bulletin issued by the Ministry of Health and Population, with this, the total cases of cholera that is caused by bacteria named vibrio cholerae have reached 17 in the Valley. Of them, 12 are males and five are females, said Ministry joint-spokesperson Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari.
On June 29, Kathmandu reported 14 cholera cases. Dr Chuman Lal Das, Director, Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, informed that 14 people have been diagnosed with cholera and returned home after treatment.
While two cholera patients were undergoing treatment at Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital in Teku, their condition is normal now.
With the number of cholera cases growing in the valley, the Ministry of Health and Population has urged all to be vigilant. Dr Sameer Kumar Adhikari, the Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry, said that the public has been urged to be vigilant as the cholera outbreak has increased.
With that, he requests all to drink only purified and boiled drinking water as cholera has been found in the polluted drinking water. Cholera has been reported due to contaminated drinking water. To avoid diarrhea, it is recommended to defecate only in the toilet, after defecating, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. And also, before cooking, feeding and eating wash your hands with soap and water.
