Candidates in the upcoming election in Lalitpur Metropolitan City have put forward drinking water problem and waste management as the main agenda.
In particular, the candidates of the ruling coalition parties, including the CPN (UML) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, have expressed their commitment to solve these problems if they win. The residents have been facing shortage of drinking water for a long time.
The metropolis itself is dependent on the landfill site constructed by the federal government for waste management and there is no alternative to dumping site in that place.
Fourteen candidates have registered their candidacies for the post of chief and 13 for the post of deputy chief for the election. According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, 169 candidates have registered for the post of ward chairperson, 266 for ward members, 126 for women members and 57 for Dalit women members.
