Technology-friendly journalism training for women journalists started

Press Council Nepal has started technology-friendly journalism training targeting women journalists. Inaugurating the training in Kathmandu on Monday, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma expressed her belief that technology-oriented training will be effective in increasing the capacity and efficiency of women journalists.

 20 journalists from Bagmati province are participating in the first phase of the 3-day training.

Minister Sharma mentioned that such training for professional and decent journalism should be carried forward in a stronger manner in the future. The Press Council has started it. It should be increased. There will be coordination and cooperation of the government, Minister Sharma said, "All concerned bodies should be involved in making women expert journalists".

Balkrishna Basnet, Chairman of the Press Council of Nepal, informed that the training was conducted with the aim of providing proficient journalism through technology. He said that the council is trying to prevent the situation of people fleeing from journalism and being deprived of opportunities due to not being technology friendly.

In the event, President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Bipul Pokhrel mentioned that the practice of timely journalism can only be achieved by connecting with technology.

Sangita Khadka, Chairperson of the Minimum Wage Determination Committee, said that such training is important to attract the new generation to journalism and sustain those in the profession.

 Bimala Tumkhewa, Chairperson of the Womens media group Sancharika Samuha, said that journalism using the highest technology will help women journalists to advance qualitatively, consciously and professionally.

 Council member Sharad Adhikari and Chief Officer Jhavindra Bhusal facilitated the program where member Durga Bhandari Paudel gave a welcome speech.

In the 3-day program, journalists will be trained in technology-friendly journalism with mobile and data journalism, journalist code of conduct. Experts including Arun Karki, Nasana Bajracharya, Yubraj Ghimire, Matrika Poudel, Janak Nepal, Bidhan Shrestha will facilitate the training.

 Chairman of the council, Basnet, informed that they are preparing to conduct such training for women journalists in other provinces as well.
