On Friday, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Tedros Adhanom Gebreas inspected the vaccination center at Patan Secondary School. The vaccination center is currently administering typhoid vaccine to children above 15 months and under 15 years of age.
The government has been conducting a vaccination campaign against typhoid by setting up vaccination centers in various schools across the country since April 10. This campaign will run till April 30. The government is also conducting vaccination against the coronavirus from vaccination centers.
While inspecting the vaccination center, Director General Gabrias met with Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Mayor Maharjan said that Director General Gabrias had observed the success of Nepal against COVID-19.
Mayor Maharjan said, "This is an observation tour of the good work we have done against COVID-19. This is very important for us. His visit will definitely be a leap forward in the health sector in the future. During today's visit, I hope that the Government of Nepal, through the Lalitpur Metropolitan City and the WHO, will receive additional support for such programs in the future.
During the meeting, Mayor Maharjan informed that Director General Gabrias expressed his commitment to provide more assistance in the field of public health in Nepal in the coming days.
The government estimates that about 7.5 million children will benefit from the ongoing vaccination campaign.
During his visit to Nepal, Director General Gabrias on Thursday called on Health and Population Minister Birodh Khatiwada, Foreign Minister Dr. Narayan Khadka and other high-ranking officials. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today.
