Chairman of Press Council Nepal, Balkrishna Basnet, has informed that the council is doing creative work for the professionalism of the cartoon genre in journalism.
The event organised by the Council was held in collaboration with Cartoonist Club and Nepal Academy of Fine Arts. In the interactive program on cartoons and ethics in the media, Council Chairman Basnet pointed out that professional protection of the cartoon genre is necessary in journalism. Cartoons make journalism creative and interesting. Although it looks negative, the message it gives is always positive.
He said that it is necessary to take initiatives to advance the cartoon genre along with the advertising market of journalism and online journalism.
Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, Naradamani Hartmachli, expressed his happiness that the council has shown interest in the problems and professionalism of cartoonists from the state level.
Basu Kshitij, President of the Cartoonist Club, said that cartoonists are always afraid of insecurity.
This is the first time that the Council has organised a program of this level with the cartoonists along with the code of conduct. In the program, cartoonists Ravin Saymi and Avin Shrestha said that the council should play a parental role for the professional safety of the cartoon genre along with journalism.
Cartoonist Rajesh KC said that the state has not been able to introduce him as a cartoonist in journalism.
Ramesh Bista, senior vice president of Federation of Nepalese Journalists FNJ, made it clear that FNJ will fight against cartoonists if there is any illegitimate pressure or insecurity on the cartoonists.
Senior cartoonist Mohanshyam Maharjan Khokna was honoured by the council in the program.
